Corcaíoch ó dhúchas, tá cáil ar Cholm Murphy de bharr an róil lárnaigh a bhí aige leis an mbanna ceannródaíoch De Dannan. Tá stíl shuaithinseach aige ar an mbodhrán agus is é an stíl seo atá le clos ar rianta ceoil le go leor ceoltóirí mór le rá, leithéidí Altan, Martín O’Connor Jackie Daly agus Mary Bergin.
