Paudie O’Connor

Ó Bhaile Uí Aichir i gContae Chiarraí a thagann an boscadóir Paudie O’ Connor. D’fhás sé aníos ag seinm le laochra ceoil an cheantar – Johnny O’ Leary, Jimmy Doyle, John Brosnan agus a chomharsan Dennis McMahon.  Tá a shaol ceoil caite aige ag foghlaim, ag seinm agus ag déanamh taighde ar cheol Shliabh Luachra. Sa bhliain 2005 sheol sé an cheirnín Different State a bhí ar an liosta gairid do cheirnín na bliana ag An Irish Times.  Sa bhliain 2015 sheol sé an cheirnín Didn’t She Dance and Dance lena bhean chéile Aoife Ní Chaoimh. Ómós do cheol na laochra móra ón cheantar a bhí ar an gceirnín agus cloistear go rialta é a chláir radio ar fud na cruinne. Seinneann agus múineann Paudie ag na féilte móra ceoil timpeall na tíre cosúil le Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy agus is é an stiúrthóir cheoil ag Féile Pádraig Uí Chaoimh. Tá ana chuid taifeadta teilifíse déanta aige thar na blianta do RTE, TG4 agus an BBC agus bhí sé mar láithreoir don chlár Geantraí nuair a deineadh é in Oileán Chiarraí sa bhliain 2012.

Box player Paudie O’ Connor hails from Ballyhar in Co. Kerry. He grew up playing with musical heroes of Sliabh Lauchra – Jimmy Doyle, Johnny O’ Leary, John Brosnan and his neighbour Denis McMahon. He has spent his musical life learning playing and researching the music of Sliabh Luachra. In 2005 he released the album Different State that was short listed for album of the year by The Irish Times. In 2015 he released the critically acclaimed album Didn’t She Dance and Dance with his wife Aoife Ni Chaoimh from Tralee. Paudie is a regular teacher and performer at music festivals in Ireland and abroad including Scoil Samhradh Willie Clancy and he is the current director of The Patrick O’ Keeffe Traditional Music Festival in Castleisland, Co Kerry. He has recorded many TV programmes over the years for RTE, TG4, The BBC and in 2012 he presented the traditional music programme Geantraí when it was recorded in Castleisland.
